When our vendor’s onboarding tool exposed security gaps and lost customer data, we built DAO from scratch in eight weeks. I led a rapid, constraints‑driven UX/product effort—prioritizing safety, clarity, and completion—so businesses could open accounts online quickly and confidently while we met urgent risk and regulatory needs.
THE PROBLEM
ZiFi is a startup, an all-digital bank built for small businesses, and after many months of work, we were ready to enter the market.
But ZiFi had a problem: a few short weeks before launching, we discovered serious security vulnerabilities in our account opening tool. It was a product provided by a vendor, and in addition to failing several security requirements, it randomly lost customer data.
Our launch was at risk, and the vendor couldn't figure out how to fix the problem. With no time to spare, we decided to take a radical approach: rebuild the entire account opening application in-house and from scratch.
We had sixty days.
